Totally Talented Tuesday - BFF

This Tuesday, I want to tell you about my best friend. My BFF! We have been best friends since the fifth grade. Through grade school un-coolness, first boyfriends, second boyfriends, loss, happiness, graduation, college, marriage, pregnancy, kids....we know each other pretty well. Actually, I think she knows me better than I know myself sometimes. We weren't always in the same place at the same time. We went to different colleges. I moved to a different town. We were married a year apart. We had kids and different times, and at the same time. But we've always remained friends. I am so very fortunate to have this friend. It's rare to still have the same friend you did in grade school.

Let me just tell you a little bit about how lucky I am... Right after my husband and I got married, we moved into a new apartment with all our new gifts. She came over (she lives 2 hours away!) and got me to unpack stuff, helped me wash and put away all of our new dishes and kept me company when my husband had to leave to work a night shift.

When I had my first baby, she was the first one to come to the hospital. She sat with my new little girl so I could soak in the tub. She rubbed my big swollen feet. We ate pizza together.

When we had to move, she knew I was a procrastinator and came up to help me pack. I think she packed more stuff up than I did!! She and I went a day early and ripped carpet out of the house because I'm allergic cats and there had been years of cats in the house. She and her husband helped us pull down walls and paint.

When I had my third baby my husband was overseas. She made arrangements for her boy to stay home and stayed with me for 3 weeks (including while I was in the hospital) until my mom came to take over.

These are just the big things....there's tons of little things. I like to think I'm as good of a friend to her, but I feel like I have some catching up to do. I know she's never taken her kids anywhere but to me for her pictures. And I've never let her pay me for them. A few years (and two kids ago) while my husband was gone, I stayed with her for an entire month and watched all of our kids while she and her husband worked. Her daycare lady was on maternity leave and I wasn't working much. I took the time off (and worked one weekend) so I could just be her nanny for a month. It was actually pretty fun and the most time we've spent together.

I just hope I have more opportunities to do something for her. Really, who has this great of a friend??

Us at prom circa 199--something. Yes we had dates, we weren't together together ;)

Us last week. Not too bad, huh?
